Our Energy Body - Chakras
We are more than just our bodies, we are made of energy! The energy body is a system that carries life force energy through and around us, connecting us to the earth, each other, and the divine. Understanding this system is crucial for physical, emotional and spiritual health. The energy body is invisible to most of us; however, we feel and react to it constantly. This system is made up of several components that work together, just like the other body systems. The components of our energy body are the aura (the invisible energy field around our physical body), meridians or nadis (energy channels that run through the body) and chakras (energy centers within the body and aura).
There are seven chakras located up and down the center of our body. Each chakra has a specific location on our body, association to our endocrine system, color, musical note/frequency, and element. These energy centers can get blocked by stress and other aspects of everyday life, leading to physical or emotional discomfort and even illness. Sound healing practices, like attending a sound bath, can help to clear the chakras, removing energetic blocks and restoring balance, promoting overall health and wellbeing. Affirmations for the chakras and visualizing the corresponding chakra color is another way that we can help to bring balance to our energy.
My sound baths are conducted using quartz crystal singing bowls which are aligned to these seven energy centers, so here’s a quick overview.
ROOT
At the base of our spine is the Root Chakra. Its color is red, its musical note is C and its element is earth. It is associated with the adrenal glands. Our Root Chakra helps us to feel safe and connected to the earth. To help keep our Root healthy, we can go outside and enjoy nature, cook and enjoy root vegetables and wear the color red. Put your feet on the grass, take a deep breath and smile!
Affirm, “I am safe”.
SACRAL
The Sacral Chakra is a few inches below your belly button. Its color is orange, its note is D and its element is water. It is associated with the reproductive glands. This energy center is the home of our creative energy and helps us regulate our emotions and experience pleasure. To strengthen our Sacral Chakra, spend time with water (take a cleansing shower, drink water, visit your local body of water), focus on your hobbies, and dance!
Affirm, “I feel my emotions.”
SOLAR PLEXUS
In the center of our body, in our belly is the Solar Plexus. Its color is yellow, its note is E, and its element is fire. It is associated with the pancreas and digestive system. The Solar Plexus is home to our confidence and motivation. Think of it as your inner flame, empowering you to be seen and take action. Strengthen your power center by spending time in the sun, do some cardio and wear yellow. Affirm, “I live in my personal power.”
HEART
The Heart Chakra is located in the center of your chest. Its color is green, its note is F and its element is air. It is associated with the thymus gland. The Heart connects the spiritual aspects of the upper chakras to the humanity of the lower chakras and its energy extends out through the arms and hands. The function of the heart energy center is to help us tap into unconditional love, for ourselves and others, fostering harmonious relationships in all aspects of our lives. Support your heart space by bringing attention to your breath and making sure to practice deep breathing with your diaphragm. Notice the color green surrounding you in nature.
Affirm, “I love myself.”
THROAT
The Throat Chakra is located near the base of your throat. It is the color blue, its note is G and its element is ether or space, which encompasses all frequency and sound. It is associated with the thyroid, neck, jaw and ears. Energetically, the Throat Chakra helps us find authentic self-expression. Speaking kind words, stretching your neck and listening to uplifting music or messages can assist your Throat Chakra.
Affirm, “I speak my truth with kindness.”
THIRD EYE
In the center of your eyebrows is your Third Eye. Its color is indigo, its note is A and its “element” is light. It is associated with the pineal gland. The Third Eye is the center of conscious awareness and intuition. By exercising this energy center, you expand your perspective and tap into the subtleties of your intuition. Exercise your third eye by finding quiet and listening to your inner voice. Meditate and acknowledge synchronicities in your everyday life.
Affirm, “I see myself in everything.”
CROWN
The Crown Chakra is located just above the top of your head and serves as a way to connect to divine energy and our highest self. Its color is violet or white, its note is B and its “element” is thought or pure spirit. It is associated with the pituitary gland and closely linked to the brain and nervous system. The Crown helps us to recognize the divine’s presence within the world and within ourselves. It controls our sense of universal consciousness, wisdom, unity and self-knowledge. Support your crown energy by seeking meaning from physical and emotional obstacles, accepting the lesson and letting it go. Find happiness and beauty in the mundane and connect to your greater force.
Affirm, “I accept my divine nature.”
There is so much we can discuss when it comes to our energy body - this is just the tip of the iceberg! I encourage you to continue discovering the connection between your physical body and your energy body. I think you’ll find that acknowledging your energy and being mindful of your needs will help you to live a happier and healthier life!
From my heart to yours,
Bonnie
